Handmade glycerin soap is very simple to make. It`s not only convenient, personalized and fun, but it can also be profitable!!. Why not turn your soap making hobby into a business? There are so many recipes and varieties to experiment with. You can choose the fragrance, color, and shape or style of handmade glycerin soap. You can also add
goat milk, coco butter, or Shea butter soap bases to your handmade glycerin soap.
Items you will need to make your handmade glycerin soap are the following: glycerin soap base, fragrance, color dye, mold, knife, microwave, microwave safe container (plastic or glass), measuring spoon, vegetable oil or cooking oil, spray bottle containing rubbing alcohol, and a level surface to work on. You will be making what is called melt and pour soap. The internet is the best source for acquiring the glycerin soap base, dye, and mold. Glycerin soap base can be scented or unscented, clear, amber, or white, and comes in various sized blocks and is usually scored for easy measuring.
For example, I use a 2lb block that has 60 squares. You divide 32oz (2lbs) by 60 squares equals .533oz per square. Fragrances that are available are too numerous to list. If you are not fussy about the shape or style of your handmade glycerin soap. You can make your own mold by cutting the bottom from a plastic dish soap bottle, spray bottle, or even a water bottle. Just cut about 3 inches from the bottom and you will have a mold. Just make sure that it is not a hard plastic as this would make removing the soap a little difficult. The procedure for making a 4oz bar of handmade glycerin soap are as follows:
Coat the mold with a very thin coating of the vegetable or cooking oil. This will help with removing the soap from the mold. Now cut 8 squares of glycerin, remember a square should weigh .533oz times 8 will make 4.24oz. Cutting the squares into smaller pieces will reduce time in the microwave. Place them in a microwave safe container and place in the microwave. Start with a high setting for 30 seconds and increase by 10 seconds until the soap is all liquid. Don’t let the soap get to the boiling point as it will crystallize. After your handmade glycerin soap is in a liquid form, remove from the microwave. Add 3 to 4 drops of color dye, and about ¼ tsp of your desired fragrance. Gently stir and mix your handmade glycerin soap until it is thoroughly mixed. Vigorous stirring will cause unwanted bubbles in the soap mix. Any bubbles can be removed by spraying with rubbing alcohol, the alcohol odor will disappear. Now it is ready to pour into the mold. Let your handmade glycerin soap set for 2 to 3 hours until it firms up. After it has firmed up, place the mold face down and push on the bottom of the mold with both thumbs to remove the soap from the mold. You can place the handmade glycerin soap in a freezer for about 10 or 15 minutes for soap that is difficult to remove from the mold. Now you can enjoy the benefits of your own handmade glycerin soap.
