Ginseng root comes from a plant of the genus Panax.   The word Panax  comes from the Greek word panacea, which its meaning is “cure all or  all healer.“  Other names associated with ginseng root are five fingers, man root, divine root, and root of life. The shape of the ginseng root resembles the legs of a human. Which is why the  “man root” refers to the ginseng root.
 Ginsengs traditional use was for a tonic to stimulate male sexual vigor and potency.  The three species of ginseng root are:  American, Korean, and Siberian. Ginseng root can be found in United States and China.  The ginseng plant is found mostly on the northern slopes of hills. It takes approximately four to six years before ginseng root is harvested.  Ginseng is grown commercially but also can be found in the
wild.  The wild ginseng root is highly prized to find as it is expensive to purchase and can be difficult to find.
 Ginseng root has been used for quite a number of years by Asians and Native Americans. Ginseng originally was used to enhance libido and sexual performance. The Southern Illinois University Scholl of Medicine did a study in 2002 and found that ginseng enhanced libido and sexual performance in laboratory animals.  Ginseng root taken orally can possibly improve sexual dysfunction in males as it is associated with the male reproductive system.  Some fe

Ginseng root has been used as a treatment for (adult-onset) type II diabetes  Ginseng root can be found in a lot of energy drinks.  Ginseng root products is thought to boost athletic performance, improve the immune system, decrease the risk of any stress related illness.  Ginseng root has many uses such as energy booster, sexual stimulant, life longevity, impotence, and gastrointestinal disorders.  Some short-term studies have shown that when fatigued ginseng root  improved memory, energy, and physical performance.   There are some precautions to be considered using ginseng root products as they are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration for they are considered a dietary supplement.  People with Type 2 diabetes and on medication to lower their blood sugar level should inform their doctor that they are using any type of ginseng root products.
